What do you do to relax
I live on beautiful Bribie Island, so take frequent walks in a variety of foreshore settings. I am an amateur landscape photographer on my iPhone. I also love the feeling of vitality in the body following exercise.
What is Your Favourite Book You are Reading at the Moment
Medical school cured me of reading for leisure! That said, I really enjoyed Philip Hills’ The Man Who Tried to Prove too Much, an autobiography completed in the final months of life by a man with brain cancer.
Why have you decided to join the ASPM Board
The ASPM continues to support me in providing psychological medicine, an integral skill for all general GPs, as more than a third of weekly GP consultations contain a mental health component (RACGP’s 2023 Health of the Nation https://www.racgp.org.au/general-practice-health-of-the-nation-2023). I see psychological medicine as a core component of our skillset, which is too often undervalued.
I enjoy medical governance, having been actively involved in the leadership groups for UQ’s General Practice Student Network (from 2016-2018), RACGP Queensland (2018), and Australian Medical Association (state and national, 2020-2022). It is an honour to be able to step up to help support this organisation.
Do you have any particular interests in the Education, Collegiate Connection, or Political Advocacy agendas of ASPM
I love to share all aspects of learning, living and working in medicine with colleagues and students alike, and feel strongly that general practice is an incredible space to work in. Connection is a natural part of general practice, that also flows into connecting with colleagues. I am interested in broadly promoting the values of ASPM.
