Dr Stephanie Pommerel
The Australian Society for Psychological Medicine (ASPM) aims to connect, train and support medical practitioners in the complex work of caring for the whole person through trauma-informed, strengths focused and culturally respectful approaches. We are a responsive member-run organisation inclusive of GPs across Australia from RACGP, ACCRM, non-aligned GPs and other doctors who have an interest in mental health and social and emotional wellbeing. ASPM promotes generalist priorities, process, and content that care for the whole person within their relationships and community. We also value and seek to honour the wisdom and experience of older members within our community.
Relaxation
I unwind with coastal walks on Bribie Island, enjoy iPhone landscape photography, and love the energy boost after a good workout.
Current Read
Medical school paused my leisure reading, but I recently enjoyed The Man Who Tried to Prove Too Much by Philip Hills — a powerful autobiography written during his final months with brain cancer
Why ASPM Board
ASPM has supported my growth in psychological medicine—a vital but often undervalued GP skill. With over a third of GP visits involving mental health (RACGP 2023), I believe this work is essential to quality care.
ASPM Interests
I’m passionate about sharing the journey of medicine with colleagues and students. General practice is a deeply connected field, and I’m committed to promoting ASPM’s values across education, connection, and advocacy
