Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training (Level 2)
ASPM’s course is accredited by the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) for Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training Level 2 (FPS-ST) and approved for CPD by RACGP and ACRRM.
GP Psychological Medicine Training: For GPs by GPs
ASPM’s FPS-ST offers Level 2 training in practical mental health care for general practice. Pre-requisite is Level 1 Mental Health training (see MENTAL HEALTH SKILLS TRAINING PAGE under RESOURCES) Designed and delivered by general practitioners, this course has several delivery modes: on demand (coming soon), via Zoom and face-to-face. Live courses run over a weekend (14 hours), with 6 hours of preparation and 1 hour follow-up, with small groups to ensure quality learning. See our events calendar.
Online Resources
A wide variety of quality resources and self-help activities to share with patients are included in the cost of the course. A comprehensive reading list is provided for those who wish to develop greater depth in particular areas of interest.
Practical Training for GPs
ASPM’s training is highly interactive and very practical. It is suitable for GP registrars through to experienced doctors with all skills being readilytransferable across all other areas of General Practice. We encourage contributions from and interaction between our participants, as we always learn from attendees at each workshop.

Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST) attracts an initial training subsidy as well as for required FPS Continuing Professional Development activities for GPs.
The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration provides one-off training subsidies of $600 for FPS-ST and $200 for the yearly required CPD. ASPM’s FPS-ST and CPD training is accredited by RACGP and meets GPMHSC eligibility criteria. Read more here
Eligibility:
- Currently working as a GP or GP in training in Australia
- Complete FPS-ST from 1 August 2021 and FPS CPD from 1 January 2025
- Register with Services Australia (Medicare) as FPS provider
- Provide evidence of payment
- Not have previously received the subsidy
- Not have received other funding, e.g. grants, scholarships, subsidies or sponsorships for FPS
